Julie Lewit-Nirenberg

Julie Lewit-Nirenberg, Founder

A successful business executive, Julie’s experience includes building and marketing new enterprises both in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Her publishing experience is quite vast. It began with being a part of the launch of Ms. magazine. Julie then went on to work at Woman’s Day, Savvy and Esquire. She was the founding Publisher of NewYork Woman, which broke new ground by effectively ‘networking’ women in the greater New York region. She went on to be the founding Publisher of Mirabella with Grace Mirabella as Editor-in-Chief. While there she pioneered a host of charitable initiatives in support of women’s issues. Her association with the Susan G. Komen organization inspired her to found the American Prostate Initiative several years later. After Mirabella, Julie went on to become the Publisher of Condé Nast’s Mademoiselle. In 1997, she and her partner created and started Mode, the first ‘Vogue-quality’ style magazine for women size 12 and up. Mode created a new paradigm in the fashion industry and was instrumental in changing the self-image of hundreds of thousands of women.

Ever since working with Gloria Steinem, Julie has had a hand in women’s issues, breaking glass ceilings herself, mentoring other women and using the media pulpit to change perceptions, empower and celebrate women across the board. She has made speaking appearances in support of women’s causes on the Today Show, CNN, CNBC, ABC, Fox Network, MSNBC, NPR, and on countless of industry panels.

Julie’s background, coupled with high-level relationships in the fashion and beauty industries and first-hand knowledge of executive coaching, inspired the formation of Operation Reinvent.

She is equally home at the Metropolitan Opera, on the tennis court and climbing (at 55) to the top of Kilimanjaro. Julie lives with her husband Saul and their Wheaten Terrier, Henry, who rules the house with iron paws.
